Approximately 1.4 million individuals sustain a TBI each year in the United States. In times of combat, 14-20% of surviving casualties suffer a TBI. The number of TBIs resulting from recent combat in Iraq and Afghanistan is so large that TBI has been called the “signature wound” of the OEF and OIF conflicts.
